Orphans for Christ in Africa
Until they are old enough to care
for themselves!
Computer & IT
Skills Training for Uganda Orphans Project

Initial
Set-up of Smaller Computer Training Program
Update:
Realizing
that we have to wait for God's own timing in providing the full
funding needed to have the Computer Project fully set up, we have
decided that we should use what sources we already have. We
have decided that we should set up a small Computer Skills Training
Program for now, without Internet Connection, and trust in God for
more funding to come in so that we can set up the project to its
full potential.
We are
using the house in which the computers were being stored and have
turned the living room into a classroom, as renting another premise
would require a substantial amount of money. With funding
received from OFA (Orphanages for Africa) and Mrs. Kilpatrick (Australian Volunteer James's mother), we were able to purchase 10
computer tables, that can each hold two desktop computers, and 20
chairs for the students. We also purchased a large white board
and initial supplies that has enabled us to start computer training
in November.
We
have been able to accommodate 16 students in one class, and we have
classes in four sessions:
Morning
9:00AM - 11:00AM, Mid Morning 11:00AM - 1:00PM, Afternoon 2:00PM -
4:00PM, and Late Afternoon 4:00PM - 6:00PM.
We are
very thankful for the funding from both OFA and Mrs. Kilpatrick,
which enabled us to initially set up this program. We trust
the Lord will provide the remaining funding so that OCA can fully
set up this program. Please view the photos believe of some of
the very first orphaned girls who have enrolled in the computer
program.
However,
the project still needs the following items to complete its
implementation:
-
FUNDS FOR ANOTHER PREMISE:
Funding
assistance is needed to enable Orphans for Christ in
Africa to rent an appropriate premise in Kampala, as well as funds for purchasing
additional furniture and supplies, and initial internet connection
and installation. We would appreciate your financial help
towards the setting up of this computer project.
-
Funds for sponsoring the orphans
and disadvantaged youth who are the direct beneficiaries of the
project. With US $100 an orphaned teenager/youth can be
sponsored for the computer and ICT skills at OCA Computer &
ICT Skills Training Center.
Phase
II
of this project entails setting up a larger Computer & ICT
Skills Training Program in Kampala, then will be replicated at
"New Hope Children's Center" in Tororo in the second year
and and then eventually at "New Life Children's Center",
in Gulu, Northern Uganda, in the third year. However, it is also
possible to implement these projects simultaneously when funding is
available.

Mission Statement
To
nurture and raise a highly skilled and well-educated young
generation of children and youth who are computer literate, morally
upright, spiritually balanced, self-sustaining, and fulfilled
individuals.
Objectives
Goal
The goal of this
program is to provide computer & ICT skills and Job skill
training to a minimum of 210 disadvantaged children and youth
annually, at an initial quarterly intake of 70 students, per
training cycle per center, whereby there would be three intakes per
year, with an allowance of one month in between each training
program to allow time for preparation and for the staff/volunteers
to be refreshed.
Future
Plans
After
setting up this initial Basic Skill Training Program in Kampala, a
similar Training program will be replicated at New Hope Children's
Center, in Tororo District, Eastern Uganda, in the following year,
and in the third year, at New Life Children's Center in Gulu,
northern Uganda, with long term plans to cover other regions of
Uganda. After running these basic level training for about two
